Why We’re Here

The Little White Lives Project is an invitation — not to shout the loudest or rush to the front lines, but to do the slow, honest work that white people often skip. It asks us to notice how racism shaped us, unlearn what we inherited, and choose better ways to live. Reflection isn’t the whole journey, but it’s where real change actually begins.

We — the white people who come to this work with open eyes and open questions — are here to look at what we were taught, what we absorbed without choosing, and what we never thought to question. We are here to sit with the discomfort that surfaces when we finally see how deeply racism has shaped our lives. And we are here to discover that learning the truth, even when it stings, can be freeing.

This space isn’t about guilt or perfection. It’s about curiosity. It’s about loosening the grip of old stories we didn’t know we were carrying. It’s about exploring, together, what it means to be white in America — and how we might live differently once we see more clearly.

A Journey of discovery…

How We Explore

There’s no single place to begin. Some people arrive through stories, others through history, or by looking for resources they can use right away.

Stories open doors. Personal narratives let us recognize ourselves, laugh a little, wince a little, and realize we’re not alone in this messy process.

Resources guide us. From history to media to practical tools for raising kids, this site gathers material that helps us connect dots we may never have been shown before.

Community sustains us. This isn’t work to be done in isolation. Our forum offers a place to talk honestly, ask clumsy questions, share discoveries, and walk alongside others.

If you’re not sure where to begin, the Resources hub is a good first stop—it gathers the guides, media, and history that connect all the other pieces together.

What You’ll Find Here

This is a place built for discovery — a quiet corner and a gathering place, a library and a living room, a museum and a mirror. Here, stories meet history, and personal memory sits beside collective truth. You'll find voices that challenge, teach, and accompany you. You'll come across the facts we were never taught, the stories we didn't know we needed, and the conversations so many of us were never invited to have. This is a space to wander, to learn, to be surprised — and to join a community of people doing the brave work of looking closely at what shaped us, and imagining what else might be possible.

What Grounds Us

Racism is learned — it can be unlearned. Discomfort is not failure; it's often the beginning of wisdom. Truth-telling heals, even when it hurts. We don't need all the answers to begin, only the willingness to look.

An Invitation

Little White Lives began as one person’s journey of reckoning, told through stories. It has grown into a place where others can wander, read, listen, ask, and reflect.

This is not about becoming someone else overnight. It’s about beginning to see—really see—the stories we’ve been told and the lives they’ve shaped.

You don’t have to march. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to look honestly, stay curious, and keep walking.

Welcome.

Important Note on Activism

This site is not meant as a substitute for activism. Activism and systemic change are essential. What Little White Lives offers is a companion path: the internal work white people need to do so that when we do act, we bring honesty instead of guilt, steadiness instead of defensiveness, and humility instead of quick fixes.
